NDIS Social Options

Your fun, your way

At Opendoor, Social Options are more than activities.

They’re pathways to genuine connection, confidence, and community belonging.

We support people with disability to explore interests, build friendships, and take part in life in ways that feel comfortable, meaningful and empowering.

Families tell us they want safe, engaging opportunities that support independence and enrich everyday life. With over 40 years of trusted service across Victoria, Opendoor stands for reliability, integrity, and deep local understanding.

Our long-standing partnerships with local councils, community groups, providers, and programs help participants connect in ways that matter to them and feel rooted in their own communities.

We know that connection fuels wellbeing. Whether it’s trying something new, strengthening friendships, or simply feeling more confident in everyday moments, Social Options support participants to grow at their own pace and enjoy the journey.

What are my NDIS Social Options?

Our Social Options supports are shaped around your goals, interests and comfort levels. You choose what matters most, and we help you make it happen.

Social Option activities and supports may include:

  • Engaging in shared programs such as gardening, book clubs, swimming, cooking, and movie and game days.
  • Travel training to build confidence and independence for getting around (public transport or community navigation).
  • One-to-one support that transitions into group engagement as your confidence grows.
  • Everyday life skills gained through participation and experience, not just from instructions.
  • Attending local events, community gatherings, performances, and recreational experiences.
  • Exploring passions, trying new activities, and building valued friendships.

Activities can be delivered one-to-one, in small groups, or within broader community settings tailored to what feels right and comfortable for each person.

Our approach

At the heart of everything we do is trust, respect and Our supports are grounded in trauma-informed practice, meaning we prioritise emotional safety, choice, predictability and dignity in every interaction. We believe meaningful support comes from knowing the person, not just providing a service.

Our support workers are experienced, compassionate, and committed to long-term relationships. Wherever possible, participants work with consistent staff who understand their preferences, goals and communication styles and who help them feel safe, confident and understood.

Our approach is:

  • Trauma-informed – prioritising safety, choice and respect.
  • Participant-led – your goals guide every decision.
  • Relationship-based – continuity and trust matter.
  • Community-connected – strengthened by local partnerships.

Across every stage of support, your NDIS goals are at the forefront of our planning and collaboration.

Funding and participation

Social Options supports are typically funded through the Core Supports category in your NDIS plan.

We work with participants and families to help you understand how your funding can support community participation, travel training, skill development and meaningful engagement.

While NDIS does not usually cover activity costs such as memberships or entry fees, it does fund the support needed to participate confidently and safely.

NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It provides support to people with a disability, their families and carers. It is jointly governed and funded by the States and Territories within Australia. It covers the needs of people with disability up to the age of 65.

It can provide assistance in a wide variety of areas determined by meetings with planners and other people who are there to advocate on your behalf.

NDIS funding is determined by your planner and will aim to:
