Standing together on World Refugee Day

Today, 20 June 2026, we pause to celebrate the incredible strength, courage, and resilience of refugees across the globe and within our own neighbourhoods. Opendoor is honoured to welcome people from all walks of life who have overcome immense challenges to start anew in Australia, which is why we’re proudly standing together this World Refugee Day.

Our community is made so much richer and more vibrant by the diverse backgrounds, unique perspectives, and powerful stories of those who have settled here. In Victoria we are surrounded by a truly cosmopolitan and multinational community, and it’s our differences which make us stronger, culturally richer, and a melting pot of languages and resilient journeys.

To those who have travelled so far to be here: we see your courage, we value your presence, and we celebrate you today and every single day.

Join us in standing with refugees.

More than just words: Building a life in Australia

We are incredibly proud to support these journeys through our English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Literacy courses. We know that arriving in a new country brings a unique set of challenges, which is why we provide a warm, safe, and friendly environment for everyone, regardless of where your journey began.

Our structured English language certificates are designed to meet you exactly where you are, offering a clear pathway forward:

  • Foundational skills: Developing essential everyday English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
  • Added extras: Digital literacy and numeracy skills are embedded into the curriculum, providing a well-rounded skillset.
  • Culture and connection: Learning about Australian life and culture to help you feel right at home.
  • Future readiness: Preparing for further study or entering the Australian workforce with confidence.

A launchpad for confidence and belonging

Gaining vital communication skills is about so much more than just gaining a certificate. It is a launchpad for a fulfilling and integrated life. Our courses give participants the practical tools and confidence to navigate daily life with ease, whether that means:

  • Chatting comfortably with neighbours, shopkeepers, and the team at your local cafe.
  • Clearly communicating your needs with your GP or medical professionals.
  • Finding the confidence to safely explore and navigate your local area.
  • Creating inclusive pathways to meaningful employment and further study.

Ultimately, it is about feeling like a valued, contributing, and connected member of the community.
