Community Access
At Opendoor, we believe in the power of personalised support to transform lives. Our community access program is designed to empower participants to achieve their personal goals through tailored strategies. During our intake process, we take the time to get to know each participant and their aspirations through our “Participant Profile” booklet. This helps us match them with a suitable support worker from our diverse team, each with unique qualifications, skill sets, and industry experience.
Success Stories: Transformative Impact
Our participant, Nina, who receives one-on-one support to complete her training course, recently began work placement and successfully completed her first solo day!
With the ongoing encouragement of her support worker, Nina has gained confidence in her studies, developed positive social connections, and learned to manage nerves and anxiety in new situations. This comprehensive support has empowered her to take on challenges with a positive outlook, highlighting the transformative impact of our Community Access program. Overcoming Community Access BarriersÂ
We understand that participants often face physical barriers when accessing the community, such as lack of access to cars or uncertainty about using public transport or booking taxis/Ubers. Our support workers have access to vehicles and provide travel training to build participants’ confidence in independently using public transport or booking taxis/Ubers. We are committed to breaking down these barriers and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in their community.
Collaborating for Inclusivity
At Opendoor, we believe in the power of community. We collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and community groups to create more inclusive and accessible opportunities for our participants. Our team is encouraged to be familiar with Neighbourhood Houses Victoria and community supports to connect participants with resources that help them achieve their goals. Together, we are building a more inclusive and supportive community.
Enhancing Well-being and Quality of Life
Our community access programs go beyond social inclusion to enhance participants’ overall well-being and quality of life. By matching support workers for the long term, we ensure they build strong rapport with participants, understand their environment, and are familiar with their formal and informal supports. This holistic approach allows staff to identify and address needs beyond just community access and NDIS goals, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being.
