Being a young adult is all about finding your place in the world. It’s a time of building independence, learning new skills, making friends, and exploring what life can offer.
At Opendoor, we work alongside young adults in the NDIS to help them step into their next chapter with confidence. Whether it’s preparing for work, learning life skills, or building social networks, we create a plan that’s about your goals, your choices, and your future.
Why young adulthood is a key stage for support
Young adulthood often brings big changes:
- Leaving school or further study
- Entering the workforce
- Moving out of home
- Learning to manage finances and routines
- Building relationships and social connections
For young people with disability, these changes can feel exciting and sometimes overwhelming. The right NDIS supports can make the difference between feeling stuck and moving forward.

How Opendoor supports young adults
1) Building independence through everyday skills
We help participants develop the skills they need to live more independently, such as:
- Travelling on public transport
- Cooking and meal planning
- Managing money and bills
- Organising a weekly routine
- Using technology for study, work, and social life
These skills don’t just prepare you for the future, they make every day easier and more enjoyable.
2) Preparing for work or further study
Through our connections and Support Coordination, we can help you:
- Find and apply for training or education programs
- Connect with disability-friendly employers
- Build a resume and prepare for interviews
- Learn workplace skills like time management and communication
3) Connecting with your community
Social participation is about more than just having something to do, it’s about belonging. Our Community Access program links young adults with:
- Sports clubs and fitness activities
- Creative and arts groups
- Volunteering opportunities
- Peer networks and social groups
- Community gardening activities
A tailored plan for your life
At Opendoor, we don’t do one-size-fits-all. We listen to what you want, then match you with the right supports and people to help you get there. This could include one-on-one assistance, group activities, or linking you with other service providers.
We also work closely with families and carers, so everyone’s on the same page and your support network is strong.
Real change, real stories
With help from my support workers, I get to live how I want. I go to work, catch the train, do my own shopping and bills, and still make time for bowling and the footy. They’ve helped me stay independent, but also feel supported. I feel lucky to have a team that respects me and helps me enjoy life. – Bruce – Opendoor NDIS participant.
