Empowering Youth: The Formation of the Youth Consultative Committee at Opendoor

At Opendoor, Transition to Work services, we believe in the transformative power of youth leadership and mentoring. To further this commitment, we are proud to announce the creation of the Youth Consultative Committee (YCC). This initiative is designed to empower young people by giving them a platform to voice their opinions, concerns, and ideas on matters that directly impact their lives. Our goal is to create a pathway for our youth to achieve their dreams and to ensure that their perspectives are integral to our mission.

For the Youth, by the Youth

As Helena aptly puts it, the YCC’s purpose is to provide insights we might not otherwise access. These young ambassadors will actively participate in events and campaigns, driving positive change for youth experiencing disadvantage. By creating opportunities for personal growth and youth awareness, we aim to foster a supportive environment where young people can thrive.

Shaping Services and Creating Opportunities

Kristen highlights the importance of YCC in shaping our services. Through leadership development and mentoring, our young leaders will help us break down barriers and create pathways for success within Opendoor and the broader community. The YCC will facilitate a collaborative approach, ensuring that the voices of our youth are heard and acted upon.

Cultivating Responsibility and Leadership

Jamie-Lee envisions the YCC as a platform for young people to actively participate in decision-making processes. By including their perspectives in the development and implementation of policies, we promote an inclusive, youth-led approach. This involvement cultivates a sense of responsibility and leadership among our young participants, providing them with lifelong skills that will impact their personal and professional lives.

Innovative Workshops and Programs

To support the YCC, we have developed a series of innovative workshops and programs aimed at enhancing youth employment pathways, digital resume creation, and personal development. Highlights include:

  • Youth Employment Pathways Program (YEPP): A collaboration with the Local Jobs Program grant, MMVLLEN, and Opendoor, offering industry tours and youth mentoring.
  • Next Generation Resumes: In partnership with the Brotherhood of St Laurence, this program covers digital resume creation and work preparation.
  • SEE Program: In collaboration with Hume City Council, Mas National, and motivational speaker Zaki, offering VR headset sessions, career counseling, and inspiring talks.
  • Reverse Marketing Workshops and Workplace Tours: Providing job readiness training and introductions to various industries, including airport jobs and Core Powerfoods.

Through these initiatives, we aim to support our young participants in their journey towards employment and personal growth, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to succeed.

Join Us in Empowering the Next Generation

The YCC is more than just a committee; it’s a movement towards a brighter future for our youth. By empowering young people to lead and make decisions, we are not only shaping their futures but also the future of our community. We invite you to join us in this mission, as we work together to create a supportive, inclusive, and empowering environment for all.

At Opendoor, we are committed to listening to and uplifting the voices of our youth. Together, we can achieve remarkable things.
